Gratitude, running, yoga (maybe!)

First, thanks to everybody who left such sweet comments yesterday! When I tell people in my life that I’ve hit the -20 mark, they’re happy and supportive, but there’s nothing quite like the support you get from people fighting the same battle, is there?! So, THANK YOU!

Second–I’ve signed up for my 1st 5K! It’s not until the end of October, but I wanted lots of time to really learn how to jog/run properly. Except…now what? I’ve been walking 3.5 miles/60 mins 2-3x/wk, and can do a 5K (with mild elevation changes, anyway!) on the treadmill, so I’m feeling confident. Is there a suggested program for beginners? Everything I’ve looked at says walk 1 min/run 1 min to start, than gradually increase the run-to-walk ratio. Does that sound right? I’d love to hear from others who’ve taken up running–cheers!

Finally–I’ve taken exactly one yoga class in my life, and was bored to tears. BUT. That was years ago, and now I feel like flexibility would be a good complement to the cardio and strength I’m doing. It looks like lots of folks here do yoga, and I’m blessed in that Portland literally had dozens of yoga studios…which is kind of the problem! Where on earth do I start? Some of the “hot” and “power” yoga classes I think look pretty advanced, but beyond that, I don’t know what style or method is best for an absolute beginner. The one studio near me that has classes specifically labeled “Beginner” is very spendy! :-( So I’d rather go to a place where I can choose the dollar amount I can put on a class punch card, and know I’m taking the class that’s right for me! Any suggestions or experiences you all would like to share?

I know I’m asking a lot in this email–I promise I’ll leave lots of nice comments and boosters today as karmic payback!! :-) :-)

as for running.. that is how I did it. not in minutes but in distance.. I run outside so distance worked better for me. I will also suggest to take it outside. Running on a treadmill does not compare to running outside …
Good luck you can do this
